Top 10 Forklift Manufacturers of 2020

  1. Toyota Industries

Toyota Industries Corp., based in Kariya, Aichi, Japan, had revenues of $19.98 billion for fiscal year 2020. In addition to forklifts sold under the Toyota and Raymond brands, the company also manufactures automobiles (primarily the RAV4), automotive air conditioning equipment, electronic parts and textile machinery. The company’s revenues solely from the material handling/forklift market dropped by 2% over FY 2019 to $13.21 billion, but Toyota is still far and away entrenched as the world’s largest lift truck manufacturer.

The KION Group is made up of several lift truck brands, including Linde, STILL, Baoli, Fenwick and OM Voltas, as well as a Supply Chain Solutions segment under the Dematic brand. Based in Frankfurt, Germany, the company as a whole posted revenues of $9.87 billion in 2019. KION’s Industrial Trucks & Services segment had a good year in 2019, with revenues of $7.18 billion. That represents a gain of 5.7% over the previous year (again, just for the Industrial Trucks segment).

The Jungheinrich Group, based in Hamburg, Germany, had revenues of $4.56 billion for fiscal year 2019. That represents a 4% increase from the previous year.

Mitsubishi Logisnext Co. Ltd. is best known in the United States for its UniCarriers line of forklifts. The Tokyo, Japan-based company was formed by the integration of Mitsubishi Nichiyu Forklift Co. Ltd. with its subsidiary UniCarriers Corp. Completing its second full year under the reorganization, Mitsubishi Logisnext had revenues in 2010 of $4.12 billion, up 3.5% over the previous year.

Crown Equipment Corp., a privately-held company based in New Bremen, Ohio, moves into 5th place this year, nudging aside Hyster-Yale, as Crown had revenues of $3.5 billion in 2019, according to Forbes, which represents an increase of 12% over 2018 revenues.

  1. Hyster-Yale Materials Handling

Hyster-Yale Materials Handling Inc., based in Cleveland, Ohio, the parent company of the Hyster and Yale brands of lift trucks, had consolidated revenues of $3.3 billion for fiscal year 2019, a 3% improvement on FY 2018.

Anhui Heli Co. Ltd., based in Hefei, China, had revenues of $1.44 billion in 2019 (according to The Wall Street Journal), basically flat compared to the $1.4 billion reported in 2018.

Hangcha Group, based in Hangzhou, China, had revenues of $1.28 billion, a slight increase on the $1.27 billion reported the previous year (according to The Wall Street Journal).

  1. Komatsu

Komatsu Ltd., based in Tokyo, Japan, had revenues of $22.5 billion for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2020. The company’s construction, mining and utility equipment division, which includes forklifts, had revenues of $20.9 billion, down 10% from the previous year. According to Statista, Komatsu’s forklift business accounts for roughly 6% of sales for the division, which would put Komatsu’s forklift business at roughly $1.25 billion, dropping the company from #8 to #9.

Clark Material Handling, based in Lexington, Ky., has been a supplier of forklifts for over 100 years. Privately-held, the company’s annual revenues in 2019 were $783 million, a slight drop from the $790 million reported for 2018.
